The East and the river's lower reaches
The East End was the city's workshop; it is now its laboratory. Queen Mary's Mile End campus sits on the historic boundary between privilege and industry, its medical school at Whitechapel among the oldest in England.
The University of East London made the decisive move of the modern era: to Docklands, onto the old Royal Albert Dock, with the business school facing the runway of City Airport. Its Stratford presence grew with the Olympics; the park is now effectively the campus green.
Downriver at Greenwich the university occupies listed buildings in the royal park town — a UNESCO World Heritage Site setting that no other London university can claim. Three houses, one direction: east.
